Five-Year-Old Company Purchased for $2.5 Million

On June 1, Stryker Limited, a Denver-based company, became the US arm of Bri-Chem, a publicly-traded corporation headquartered in Alberta, Canada.

1st Click Consulting has been working with Stryker since 2008, when we teamed with Armgardt Design to create the company’s first website, SodaAshDirect.com. Since then this team has created and marketed CaNitrateDirect.com, BentoniteSupplier.com, StrykerTrans.com, and, most recently, StrykerChem.com for the company.

Stryker Limited grew out of Oilfield Supply Chain Solutions, a company founded by Lane Bates. Bates is a former Company Commander in the 1st Cavalry Division and a former oil field mud engineer who also holds an MBA. He realized that there was an opportunity to expand his business into supplying soda ash because the trucks he was running to the Wyoming oil fields were returning to Denver empty. He decided to pick up soda ash in Wyoming, and repackage it in custom quantities for sale online.

While Bates intended to sell a variety of this type of chemical/mineral products, 1st Click Consulting advised him to develop websites focusing on a single product when search volume was high enough to justify it. By researching within a database of searches on the Internet, 1st Click Consulting recommended creating separate websites for soda ash, bentonite, calcium nitrate, and the Stryker trucking company.

The StrykerChem.com site, which was launched in May, offers a number of products that have a more limited use within the oil and horizontal directional drilling and construction industries.

The SodaAshDirect.com site now can be found on Google’s page 1 for more than 60 different keyword phrases including “where to buy soda ash,” “bulk sodium bicarbonate,” and “buy sodium carbonate.” This is impressive partly because the site competes for ranking online with multinational companies like Solvay and Brunner Mond.

BentoniteSupplier.com is ranked on Google’s page 1 for 66 different keyword phrases, and CaNitrateDirect.com ranks on page 1 for 89 phrases.

Though the StrykerTrans.com site is only a little more than six months old, it already is ranking well for many targeted keyword phrases from both Denver and New York searchers. (Stryker has a second trucking/warehousing operation in upstate New York.)

In addition to search engine optimization work, 1st Click Consulting has also managed Stryker’s pay-per-click advertising on Google.

Bri-Chem’s deal with Stryker Ltd. included payments of $2.5 million and the issuance of 171,000 shares of Bri-Chem to Stryker’s owner according to Reuters.

Stryker started operations in 2005, and has grown over the past 5 years to a company with 16 employees and annual revenue of $6.5 million. It will continue to operate with Bates in charge. 1st Click Consulting is proud to have played a small role in the company’s growth and success.
